Teacher Training

Teacher Training: 1000 hours

To be accepted into the Teacher Training Program, applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma (or GED), and a current Practitioner's Certificate License in the classification(s) they wish to teach.

Students who choose this program will spend the first part of the program working closely with a licensed instructor. They will retake the basic program as they participate in assisting with the instruction. Additionally, they will work alongside the instructor(s) to whom they are assigned as the instructors check services.

To complete the training experience, the student teacher will be responsible for teaching the basic program as well as checking services on the floor under the guidance and supervision of their mentor instructor(s). At the end of the teaching course, the teacher-in-training will be able to write clear lesson plans that state goals, objectives, and how to reach them. The student will have a clear understanding of the instructional methods and materials available in the Northwest College program as well as an understanding of a variety of teaching strategies.
