Northwest College

About Us

Northwest College has served customers and educated students since 1976.

Originally the Milwaukie Beauty School, Northwest College led beauty schools into the 21st century. We relocated in June of 2005 to a brand-new building where we offer students state of the art equipment and facilities located next to the Clackamas Town Center.

Since then, we have relocated the Hillsboro campus to a new and improved location and opened schools in Beaverton, Tualatin, Medford, and Eugene, offering many options for aspiring cosmetologists throughout western Oregon. In 2015, we relocated the Eugene campus to Springfield, doubling the education space and providing a modern learning environment to students.

At Northwest College we are about making sure our students get the most out of their education, and we strive to provide a fun and valuable education. Beginning in 2012, we will be giving students the opportunity to do hair and make-up at several fashion shows and many other events. We are actively involved in the communities that our school are located in. We partner with the Oregon Food Bank and participate in annual food drives to help eliminate hunger in Oregon.

In 2014, we were nationally recognized by Modern Salon's Excellence in Education Program. Northwest College was selected as the top honoree for Community Involvement, amongst beauty school nationwide. Visit Modern Salon to learn more about the Excellence in Education program by clicking here.

Northwest College has also been featured in Seventeen Magazine, as a Spotlight on Portland Education cosmetology school. Click here to read the Seventeen Magazine article.

We are very excited and hope to see you at one of our campuses soon!

Who Are Northwest College's Students?

Northwest College students come from diverse backgrounds. Some are fresh out of high school; some are business professionals looking for a career change; and others have worked in the salon and spa industries for years and want to further their education.

But all Northwest College students have one thing in common: a passion for the spa and salon industries.

The core of the curriculum at Northwest College is hands-on teaching of all techniques and skills, practical safety and sanitation skills and business practices, as well as the theoretical knowledge that underlies competency in these related fields.

Northwest College endeavors to expose students to the different styles and experiences of the school's instructors, to acquaint students with a wide variety of equipment, and to prepare them for whatever area of the salon and spa industries they choose to enter.

As of 2012, Northwest College has become very involved with SEMPER Fashion and this means that our students will be given the opportunity to work their fashion events and get experience doing hair and make-up on runway models. In 2013, we are one of the presenting sponsors of the Portland Fashion Week and will be bringing 20 students each day to work backstage!  In 2014, the Springfield (formerly Eugene) campus was involved in Eugene Fashion Week and Summer in the City fashion events. Most recently, students from Beaverton, Clackamas, Hillsboro and Tualatin were involved in the Abby's Closet event at the Portland Convention Center.

Northwest College also participates in many community events and fashion shows where our campuses are located.

Travis Henry, @bigTtheBarber, Class of 2011

I entered Beauty School not sure what to expect and with no prior cutting/barbering experience. I did research on a few local Beauty Schools and went with what felt right for my family and the locations that worked for me. The campuses were beautiful, the staff was awesome, and there was a variety of different students. Beauty school is what you make of it. It's the school's responsibility to teach you the rules, help you achieve greatness, and give you the tools you need to succeed in this profession. Northwest College did that for me. This business is 75% Passion and 25% skills, NW College can get you those skills if your willing to do your part. I graduated in March of 2011; I'm now a Certified Educator for Eufora International, Owner of Chop Shop Hair Studio, Co-Owner of  Doo or Dye Salon, President of the North West Barbers Alliance, and Business Partners with Shave Envy. You can achieve anything you want with the right training, support, and a passion.” - Travis Henry, Class of 2011

Jessica Koch, Class of 2014

I was very scared going back to school after nearly 20 years, but attending NW College in Tualatin made it an easy transition. I had no idea what to expect from beauty school or if I was making the right career move, but in no time at all I knew NW College was the right decision for me. I had amazing instructors that were encouraging and pushed me to trust in myself and my creative abilities. I graduated on November 22, 2014 and because of the great academics of NW College passed my state boards and became licensed on November 26, 2014. I had interviewed with several salons leading up to my graduation and started working immediately as an independent contractor on December 2, 2014.. Attending NW College was the best decision of my life, I’ve never been happier going to work each day. I LOVE my career choice as a licensed Cosmetologist.” - Jessica Koch, Class of 2014
