How to Pay For Your Chosen Beauty Industry Program

Our school participates in federal aid programs through the U.S. Department of Education. Northwest College School of Beauty utilizes Pell Grant and Direct Stafford Loan programs for those who qualify. Federal Student Aid can help eligible students lower the financial obligation of their education through grants and low-interest loans.

The first step in accessing financial aid options is completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®).

To complete the application, you will need the following:

  • The school code for each school you want to apply financial aid to
  • Our school code is 014351 and displays as Northwest College of Hair Design Clackamas Campus
  • Your personal information, including your full legal name, social security number, birthday, and contact information
  • Financial information, including your federal tax returns, W2s, and current bank statements

You’ll also need to determine your dependency status. The application will walk you through this process. If you are determined to be dependent, you must supply your parent’s financial information along with your own.

Financial Aid Options

Pell Grants

Eligibility for this program is determined by a standard formula that is revised and approved every year by the federal government. Pell grants are distributions of money paid directly to the school that you do not have to pay back.

Direct Stafford Loans

These are federally guaranteed student loans borrowed directly from the U.S. Department of Education. You must repay your student loans. Repayment starts six months after you graduate or if you drop below half-time status or terminate your training. There are three types of Direct Stafford Loans:

  • Subsidized loans. These are available to students who demonstrate a financial need. The U.S. Department of Education pays interest while the borrower is in school at least half-time, during the six-month grace period, and in periods of deferment.
  • Unsubsidized loans. These loans are available to students who do not have financial need. Interest is charged to the borrower from when the loan is disbursed until it is paid in full.
  • PLUS (Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students) loans. These loans are available to parents of dependent undergraduate students. The repayment on PLUS loans differs from a subsidized or unsubsidized loan. PLUS loans go into repayment 60 days after the last disbursement of funds, and the parents are responsible for repayment.

Other Payment Options

The following are some other resources students may wish to explore:

  • The USDI Bureau of Indian Affairs certifies Northwest College School of Beauty for educational training.*
  • Career training loans are available through private lenders. These are private, credit-based loans for students.
  • Vocational Rehabilitation uses our school for the training of eligible persons.*
  • If you are an eligible Veteran, contact the V.A. about resources available.*

*Information regarding benefits from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Vocational Rehabilitation, or Veterans Affairs is available through those agencies.

Online Student Loan Counseling

Before your school disburses your Federal Stafford Loan (subsidized or unsubsidized), regulations require that you complete an entrance counseling session. The counseling session provides information about how to manage your student loans, both during and after college.

Before you graduate (or if you drop below half-time attendance), regulations require that you complete an exit counseling session. The counseling session provides information about managing your student loans after college.

Financial Aid FAQs

Where do I start with my financial aid options?

The best way to explore your options is by filling out the FAFSA®. It’s free, and there is no obligation. After completing the application, you’ll receive a summary of federal student aid you may be eligible for, including grants and low-interest loan options. This can help you determine the total cost of your training, and we can help you explore options for the remaining amount.

What if financial aid doesn't cover all of the cost of my education?

Financial aid rarely covers the total cost of your education. However, there are ways to make the remaining balance more affordable. You can apply for a private loan or make a payment plan with the school. If you don’t get as much financial aid as expected, don’t assume you can’t afford your beauty education! Talk to our team so we can help you review your options.

Are they any options for self-pay students?

Yes! You can make monthly payments to the school via check, money order, cash, or credit card. For more information about this option, please get in touch with the financial aid office at your campus.
