Ways To Fund Your Beauty Education
At Northwest College School of Beauty, we know how quickly education costs can add up! While some borrowing options like loans have to be repaid, grants and scholarships offer a unique way to fund your education in a way that you won’t have to pay back later. Each grant and scholarship has different requirements, so you’ll want to learn about the qualifications and application process to set yourself up for success.
We strongly encourage all students to apply for scholarships and grants to help cover the cost of their education! Explore some of the options on this page and discover how you can help lower the cost of your education through scholarships and grants.
Complete Your FAFSA®
We encourage all students to start their financial aid journey by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®). Completing this online application can help you understand what government grants and low-interest loans you may be eligible for.
Our school code for the FAFSA® is 014351 and appears on the application as Northwest College of Hair Design Clackamas. You can use this code for any of our programs at any NW College location.

Grants
Grants are money that you do not have to repay. Grants are often need-based and may come from the federal government, state governments, your school, or a private or nonprofit organization. Do some research to discover grants you may be eligible for! We’ve created a list below, but this is not exhaustive. There may be other options available you can explore, but this list can help you get started. Note: This list is subject to change without notice.
- Pell Grants. This is the most common federal government student aid program. It is designed to help low-income students afford higher education. The grant is open to all college-bound students who meet minimum income requirements. The final award is based on financial need, cost of attendance, and your enrollment status. To determine whether you are eligible for a Pell Grant, you must complete the FAFSA®.
- Oregon Barber and Hairdresser (B&H) Grant Program. This grant is open to residents of Oregon who are attending a licensed school of barbering, hair design, cosmetology, or manicure in the state. The school must participate in a Federal Title IV financial aid program and the Barbers and Hairdressers Grant Program. To apply, you must be enrolled full-time in a program that is at least nine months long (or 900 clock hours) and display a need for financial help.
- Chafee Education and Training Grant. The Department of Human Services (DHS) Independent Living Program (ILP) has received Chafee Education and Training Voucher (ETV) funding to help current or former foster care youth with postsecondary education and training.
- ACE Grant. ACE Grants are designed to help you begin your career in cosmetology. ACE Grants are the first-ever industry-wide effort to encourage highly motivated and qualified individuals to join the world of cosmetology.
Scholarships
Scholarships are financial aid that, like grants, you don’t have to pay back later on. Scholarships are often awarded based on merit or to students who meet certain criteria. Grants and Scholarship FAQs
No. We can offer resources for finding potential scholarships, but it’s up to you to determine your eligibility and complete the applications. If you have questions, we will do our best to answer them.
Most students pay for part of their beauty education themselves, as grants and scholarships may not cover the entire balance. We can offer you a payment plan to make your remaining balance easier to pay in monthly installments. Don’t assume you can’t afford your education, even if you aren’t eligible for scholarships or grants. Our team will be happy to review all of your options with you.
Yes! You can combine any number of grants, scholarships, and loans to cover the cost of your education. That’s why we encourage students to apply for as many scholarships and grants as they may be eligible for. Even small amounts can quickly add up!

Teacher Training
Empower the next generation by becoming a certified instructor. This program is only available to those already licensed in the beauty industry.
Eyelash Certification
Master the art of eyelash extensions and transformations. This short program is a great way to add additional services to your book.
