What You Can Learn in Our Cosmetology Program

If you love all things beauty, we highly recommend taking the full cosmetology course! It allows you to gain the skills you need to sit for your full licensure exam and gain access to a flexible career path thanks to the broad skill set you can develop.

Our students have the opportunity to learn and refine these skills by working with real clients in our simulated salon setting under the supervision of our licensed, experienced instructors. It’s an excellent way to practice customer service and build confidence as a beauty professional.

Northwest College School of Beauty has educated beauty professionals for over 48 years! It’s our mission to help aspiring beauty professionals perform with knowledge and confidence within the beauty industry. We offer a unique, student-centered approach to help you become a licensed cosmetologist.

During the course, instructors use various methods to help students build their skills, including classroom instruction, demonstrations, guided practice, and clinic experience under supervision. We encourage students to spend about half of their time working in the student salon so they can gain real-world experience that can prepare them with the entry-level job skills they would need in a future career.

Meet Oregon’s Requirements for Cosmetology

In Oregon, the Health Licensing Office (HLO) regulates licensing for all fields of practice under cosmetology, which includes Hair Design, Nail Technology, and Esthetics. To become a fully licensed cosmetologist in the state, you must attain a certificate in all three of these fields and take additional courses in career development, safety, and sanitation.

Our combination Cosmetology course includes 1,835 hours of training, covering each field of practice and additional state requirements.

When you successfully complete our Cosmetology program, you are eligible to sit for the HLO examination for an Oregon certificate in hair design, nail technology, and esthetics. This is a crucial step in obtaining licensure as a cosmetologist in the State of Oregon.

While we can’t guarantee you’ll get a job after you complete your training with us, we can tell you that the beauty industry is an ever-evolving and growing field.

Cosmetology School FAQs

How long does completing the full cosmetology course take?

We know you are eager to begin your career! Students can complete our cosmetology course in as little as 15 months. Your completion date will depend on your schedule, when you start the course, and your attendance record. We offer day and evening course schedules so you can fit your cosmetology education in with other commitments like work, family, and school. Our admissions representative can tell you more about the timing and help you predict a completion date during your campus tour.

Can I transfer my cosmetology license to another state?

Every state has different licensing requirements for cosmetologists. In Oregon, for example, you must have a certificate in hair design, nail technology, and esthetics to be a fully licensed cosmetologist. Having your full cosmetology license gives you the best opportunity to transfer your licensure to another state in the future, so it’s the course that gives you the most flexibility if you think you may move to another state in the future.

Yes, financial aid is available to those who qualify! While we try to keep our tuition affordable, we know that cost can be a concern for many aspiring beauty professionals. As an accredited school, we participate in federal programs that can help lower the cost of your education. Enrollment and Admissions Requirements

Want to get the most out of your beauty education? Learn more about our comprehensive cosmetology course by scheduling an appointment with our admissions team. They can show you around your campus of choice, tell you more about the program, and help you start the admissions process.

To begin the enrollment process, you must:

Be at least 18 years old
Have proof of completion of high school or its equivalent (such as a GED)
Complete the school admissions forms and informational tour

You must also supply a state-issued ID and a social security card. Other information and a $100 registration fee may be required to secure your spot in the course. Talk to your admissions representative for more details.
