As we move into the coolness of fall with warm fires and cozy socks our psyche may be longing for warmth in preparation for the shorter days and less sunlight. Just like the comfort food we tend to crave during the winter months, the colors we surround ourselves with can bring comfort as well. What comes to mind? Warm blankets, hot soups and warm fresh baked bread, hot tea, flannel sheets, heavy knit sweaters and scarves?
Read about the psychology of color here.
Shades of copper and burgundy reds are often talked about as our seasons change from summer towards winter. But what is the right shade of red for you? Typically warmer colors look great on warm toned skin while cool shades of red are perfect on the cooler and palest skin tones. You should also consider your eye color. If the outermost ring around your eye color is warm, then warmer colors tend to work better on you. Opposite for a cool outer ring.
There are always exceptions, and changing your makeup can make anything work.

How to add these colors into your hair: Consider some lowlights of dark red brown, or cool burgundy... or perhaps highlights of copper gold with a sheer gloss to reflect more light.
So as we get further into the winter months, pull out that wool blanket and pour yourself something hot to sip on. Enjoy the warmth of the season.
